Have you ever felt like your team is slipping through your fingers, no matter how hard you try to hold everything together?
When she first came to me a few months ago, she was visibly worn down, carrying the weight of her team's struggles on her shoulders. Every time she talked about work, I could see the frustration in her eyes. She described how her team seemed to be drifting further apart, with meetings turning into battlefields instead of collaborative discussions. She felt like she was failing as a leader, and she was beginning to doubt whether she was cut out for this role at all.
I remember one specific session early in our coaching journey, when she shared the moment that had shaken her to start our journey together. After yet another rough meeting at work, a colleague approached her quietly, pointing out that perhaps her own stress was spilling over into the team. This was a tough pill to swallow, but it was also a turning point for her. She realised she needed to take a hard look at how her emotions were impacting her leadership and her team and she came to me looking for support.
In our next session, she made a commitment—to herself and to her team. She knew things couldn’t continue as they were, and that’s when we decided to focus on working through her emotional state. It was a brave decision, one that required her to face some uncomfortable truths, but she was ready to do the work.
Over the weeks that followed, we worked together to resolve the emotional knots that had been holding her back. We explored her beliefs and how she could tune into her emotions without letting them take over and how to create space for empathy in her leadership. It wasn’t always easy—there were moments of frustration and self-doubt—but she stuck with it. She practiced staying present during difficult conversations and started to see her team members not just as employees but as individuals with their own challenges and strengths.
The changes didn’t happen overnight, but gradually, she began to notice a shift. The tension that once filled her meetings started to dissolve, replaced by genuine dialogue and collaboration. Her team began to open-up, and she could feel the trust rebuilding. She had reconnected with her purpose as a leader, and her team could feel it too. By the end of our coaching journey, she wasn’t just leading—she was inspiring!
As we completed our work together, reflecting on her journey, I’m reminded of how powerful emotional intelligence can be in transforming not just leaders, but entire teams. Her story is a proof to the fact that when we understand and manage our emotions, we open the door to deeper connections and more meaningful leadership. I’m so proud of her and the work she has done and seeing her now empowered to bring out her leadership in the best possible way.
