Let’s talk about being “busy” for a moment.
We all know the drill: running from meeting to meeting, answering endless emails, managing project deadlines, handling last-minute client requests, putting out fires, juggling spreadsheets, and then… it’s late, and we’re still “busy.”
So, I want to share a small story about a recent meeting I had with a client.
She came to me exhausted. On the surface, everything looked good - projects moving forward, deadlines met, new clients onboarded, everything ticking along. But something inside her was breaking. She told me, “I can’t keep up anymore. I’m just… tired.”
We started talking, digging a little deeper, and then she asked, “Tell me, how come you look so relaxed?” I laughed. “You know, I’m not busy - I’m effective.”
There’s a difference between being busy all the time and doing what truly matters. And I don’t say this lightly. “Being busy” has become sort of an important status to show you are working hard or maybe showing that you are so significant that you have lots going on, but you know what? Maybe it’s time we stop chasing this busy status, as it doesn’t really serve us.
If you’re ending every day exhausted from work, maybe it’s time to pause and ask - what am I actually doing here? What’s the purpose?
Am I helping the project move forward, helping the business truly grow, or am I just filling up my schedule to feel good about getting things done?
So, here’s my challenge to you this week: instead of chasing more “tasks,” try to go for results.
